How to reduce waste at Christmas

Although I am a huge fan of giving edible gifts, try not to give more than you think the gift receiver would logically eat. There is a huge amount of food unnecessarily wasted at Christmas.

There’s a number of ways you can reuse leftovers for more delicious treats.

  • If you have any leftover biscuits and cookies, you can be blitz into crumbs and store in an airtight container for at least 1 week or freeze for up to 3 months. These crumbs can be used to make a cheesecake base or used as a topping for yoghurt instead of granola for a sweet treat. or used as a coating for chocolate truffles for texture.
  • You can transform your leftover mince pies into mince pie ice cream. Break into pieces and stir through your favourite no churn recipe or store bought ice cream for an indulgent treat.
  • Leftover meringues can be broken up and made into eton mess. A dessert that consists of broken meringues, whipped cream and some sort of fruit sauce typically. You can add any leftover fruit to this too!
