Frozen Frosted Grapes Recipe

These Frozen Frosted Grapes are delicious frozen treats that are sweet and sour all rolled into one frosty mouthful. These grapes are the perfect snack to keep a bag of in the freezer. They take only minutes to make (minus chilling and freezing) and are super addictive.

So, how do I make these Frozen Frosted Grapes from scratch?

To make these Frozen Frosted Grapes, begin by washing your grapes and removing any stems. I have chosen green seedless grapes for this recipe as they are my favourite. You could choose any grape that is your favourite, however seedless is easier for eating. Begin by placing your prepared grapes into a bowl and cover with lime juice. Stir to coat and pop into the fridge to chill for 10 minutes to marinate.

In a small bowl, mix together the sugar and citric acid. The citric acid is optional but it really helps the sour taste develop. Next, remove the grapes from the fridge and roll each grape in the sour sugar. You can do a few at a time to speed things along. Place the frosted grapes onto a lined flat baking tray. For the final step, freeze for at least 30 minutes and once solid, transfer into airtight containers or ziploc bags.

What is Citric Acid?

“Citric acid is found naturally in citrus fruits, especially lemons and limes. It’s what gives them their tart, sour taste. Because of its acidic, sour-tasting nature, citric acid is predominantly used as a flavouring and preserving agent, especially in soft drinks and candies. Manufactured citric acid is one of the most common food additives in the world. It’s used to boost acidity, enhance flavor, and preserve ingredients (5).” (Healthline)

Essentially, citric acid is naturally found in citrus fruits. You can buy it in powdered form which has been manufactured for use in food. It’s intensely sour and as a result can help bring a sour flavour to food.
