Candied Hazelnuts Recipe

Candied nuts are such a joy for me. The combination of toasted nuts coated in a hard crunchy sugar coating is nothing short of magical. However, making a caramel from sugar can be a little daunting to some people. It also needs constant attention and sometimes that’s just not possible! These candied hazelnuts are done incredibly simply and only needs two ingredients; whole hazelnuts and honey! You can choose to buy skinless hazelnuts for this or spend some time removing the skins but personally, I like the added flavour the skins bring.

So how do I make these candied hazelnuts from scratch?

I was not exaggerating when I said this recipe was insanely easy!

All you need to do is place your hazelnuts in a bowl. Pour over honey and toss to coat.

Transfer this to a lined flat baking tray. Spread the sticky nuts out to prevent massive clumps forming. Or don’t, clumps of candied hazelnuts would be equally delicious let’s face it!

Pop into a hot oven and bake for 10 minutes, making sure to take them out halfway through and give them a good stir. Once cooked, allow them to cool on the sheet for at least 20 minutes. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

Can I replace the honey with maple syrup?

You sure can! Replace the honey with any sticky sugar if you prefer. Maple Syrup, Golden Syrup or even Agave Syrup would work great here. The beauty of this recipe is that is so straight forward. Any kind of liquid sugar will work with this recipe. This means that you don’t have to spend time trying to make the perfect caramel!

What can I use these on?

There’s SO many different dishes you could use these for! Throw a couple of these on a goats cheese salad. Crush them and add to ice cream as a topping, or add them to an ice cream mix, like this Honey Hazelnut Praline No Churn Ice Cream Recipe! Use them as decorations on cakes or cheesecakes. Crush them and add them to stewed fruit and cream or yoghurt for an easy dessert. Like these, Grilled Apricots, Coconut Cream and Crushed Candied Hazelnuts Recipe.Or just simply eat them as is!
