Blood Orange Bourbon Sour Cocktail Recipe
Take your Bourbon Sour up a notch with the addition of Blood Orange Juice. Take full advantage of Blood Orange season with this lip smacking, tangy and colourful cocktail. The blood oranges give a deep, vibrant orange/red hue and delicious sour notes. If you can’t get your hands on any blood oranges for this, regular oranges will work just as well, just make sure to add in some lemon juice instead of orange juice in the final cocktail to help keep the drink on the sour side.
So how do I make this Blood Orange Bourbon Sour from scratch?
To start off, you need to make Blood Orange Syrup. This is simply made, combining fresh blood orange juice with sugar. The syrup is heated until all the sugar has dissolved and then cooled. You can make big batches of this and leave a bottle of it in the fridge for whenever you fancy!
Once you have the syrup cooled, simply shake with bourbon, Cointreau, more fresh blood orange juice, fresh egg white and pour into your preferred glass filled with ice.
To create a sugar rim for the glass, take a wedge of citrus (lemon, lime, orange) and press into the top of the glass rim the whole way around the edge. Dip the wet glass rim into caster sugar until fully coated.
What Bourbon or Whiskey should I use for this?
Use your favourite bourbon! Irish whiskey would also work really well in this. A few of my favourite picks are;
-Wild Turkey 101 American Bourbon
