This Irish Stewed Apples Recipe is a comforting classic that is very popular in my family. It’s a favourite of my grandmothers, who loves having it served warm with custard. Stewed apples are a simple yet charming dish as some of the apples still keep a little bite while others create a pleasing smooth texture.

So how do I make this Irish Stewed Apples from scratch?

This dish is fairly simple and quick to make, the most difficult task is to prepare the apples. To do this, begin by peeling the apples. Remove the core or cut the apple around it. Then slice the apples into chunks.

Place the apples, sugar and water into a saucepan or deep sided pan. Cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring often until the apples have softened. Serve warm or allow to cool fully before placing into an airtight container. Store in the fridge for up to 5 days.
