Cranberry Cosmo Cocktail Recipe

This Cranberry Cosmo Cocktail is a fabulously festive cocktail using a tart yet sweet syrup for an interesting spin on a classic cocktail. It’s beautifully red in colour thanks to the cranberry syrup and juice which makes it extra festive around the holidays. You can make your own homemade Cranberry Simple Syrup for Drinks or you can buy in a premade syrup like this one from Monin. I would highly recommend making your own if you are based in Ireland though as it only takes a few minutes to make and fresh cranberries are much easier to source than cranberry syrup is.

What is a classic Cosmo cocktail?

A typical, modern Cosmopolitan Cocktail consists of citrus vodka, orange liqueur, lime juice and cranberry juice. It is usually pink in colour and served in a martini glass, sometimes with a slice of orange or orange peel.

“The extent of the Cosmopolitan’s reach was unlike that of any other drink created during the 20th century, its zeitgeist sweeping and total. There’s a longstanding debate over who actually created the cocktail—but what’s even more interesting is the cast of characters and fairytale circumstances that popularized it.

The most obvious source of its cultural dissemination was Sex and the City, where it was Carrie Bradshaw’s signature cocktail—the dainty, stiletto-like glass a perpetual fixture of her social outings. “

So how do I make this Cranberry Cosmo Cocktail from scratch?

This cocktail is super easy to make, needing only a couple of ingredients.

To begin, place all ingredients into a cocktail shaker. Shake for 20-30 seconds until the outside of the shaker starts to feel cold. Strain the cocktail into a cocktail glass of your choosing. Serve immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can i use instead of Cherry Gin in this cocktail?

While I have chosen a Gordon’s cherry gin for extra flavour, you can also choose;
Beefeater Rhubarb & Cranberry Gin
Krupknik Cherry Vodka
Bols Cherry Brandy
– Any plain or citrus flavoured vodka or gin

What can I use instead of Cointreau?

Cointreau, which I used in this cocktail recipe is an orange flavoured liqueur. If you can’t get your hands on this, you can substitute;
Monin Orange Curacao
Bols Triple Sec
Grand Marnier
– Any orange flavoured vodka or gin

Does it have to be fresh lime juice?

While freshly squeezed lime juice is preferred, you can also use bottled lime juice. I would avoid using lime cordial however as it is a little on the sweet side.
